Earthdawn 2nd Edition: A closer view of the picture that everyone really seems to like: a windling warrior in a unique set of full plate. The armor is a result of an extremely happy accident. I'd stolen the pose from Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy (a wonderful book and well worth buying!), and was noodling around trying to figure out what the guy would be doing. Obviously in some sort of fight, so I put some random armor on him. It was going OK, and I was busy smudging several grays around in Photoshop attempting to get something that looked like metal and thinking hard on what to put in the background, when I stood back and noticed that the breastplate was looking ... sort of ... carapace-like... A couple of hours later, the guy'd acquired wings and suitable modifications had been made to the armor and the rest, as they say, was history. An amusing piece of trivia: the art director's husband told me that she'd thought about giving it a full-page treatment in the book instead of the one-column space they had planned for it, but he talked her out of that by threatening to add the words "Life Size" underneath it. |
