Feb 5, 1975 Dearest folks-- Well, we are getting ready to bid a fond farewell to Nairobi bright and early tomorrow. It was a typical trip -- spent too much money and could have used another 2 days time. But after awhile you get so tired of buying that you had just better get back to the Serengeti. So nice to talk to you Daddy -- we called Leon and Elizabeth today too. Not much news to tell either of you I'm afraid except the receiving of our Toyota -- very very plush -- the interior looks like a car, by George, and not the inside of a sardine can as with the landrover. It even has a backseat! Stephanie has enjoyed Nairobi -- she has bought herself 1 birthday party hat (about 10 ¢ worth) a bag of baloons and some new books. We ate dinner with some friends of friends and she carted off a new doll from there. She always enjoys playing with children at the hotel. Her special treat this trip was bellying up to the bar everyday at 5 PM and buying herself a soda pop. The poor bartender had to put up with her the whole time she was drinking it too. Steph had what she called "bunker" beds so 1 night she was on top and the next night it was the bottom one. I'm not too sure we will get to SRI tomorrow -- we have at least 2 automobiles' full of things to carry back -- including camp chairs, a table, a typewriter (from A&M), and an enormous supply of foodstuffs. Going back up the other side of the Rift Valley may be quite an experience. Will write again when we get back to the Serengeti Much, much love Jan, Joe & Stephanie
