February 15, 1975 Dearest Momma & Daddy-- Well, we have all our things. The Box came through in perfect condition -- nothing in it seemed at all damaged. Right now we are indulging in the luxury of all our possessions -- it's really great. Joe & I drove down to Tanga on Weds. the 12th, getting there about noon. (Left Arusha 5:15 AM) That afternoon we found the box, got an agent to expedite the securing of it, and watched the agent get the necessary series of bribes going. By 11 AM the next day we had the box unloaded into the car and the box itself strapped up on the roof rack. We left immediately for upcountry (the humidity about got me down). We got to Arusha about 6 P.M and just kept going. Along about midnight we crossed Olduvai Gorge, pulled off the road and went to sleep. We put a 2 in foam pad over the packing boxes and slept quite comfortably. We arrived at SRI at 9 AM on Fri the 14th, much to everyone's surprize -- no one expected to see us before Saturday. Stephanie did fine, as expected, without us. She really had a busy time -- went to dinner at the Lodge one night and then slept in a tent at Ndutu Lodge (just S. of the park) the next night with the MacNaughtons (they were on business). She is thrilled with her toys, books, etc. Right now she is listening to her records. I think we will have a Christmas-Birthday party soon to distribute new toys that didn't get here for December. Much love, Jan Joe & Stephanie P.S. The Magazines you mailed Oct 11 arrived this week (2 packages of journals for Joe)
