On Boxing Day (December 26), Mom and I took the Jane Austen Walk from the Original London Walks. This walk takes you around the area Jane Austen stayed when she was in London and tells you a bit about what life was like in the late Georgian and early Regency days. Here's Janet, our guide. |
This building is the home of John Murray Publishing, which published Emma, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion. They're still in business, and still publishing. Must be doing something right. |
An enclosed shopping mall on or near Bond Street. If I remember anything about it, I'll update this page. :) |
This is where Jane's brother Henry lived, and where she visited him and his wife. |
An Egyptian sarcophagus in the British Museum. |
Another Egyptian piece of sculpture in the British Museum. |
And a third. I liked this guy's googly eyeballs. |
Part of the famous Sutton Hoo treasure from an Anglo-Saxon burial. |
The British Museum had an exhibit of Japanese kites going on at the time we were there. We didn't go in, but we stopped for a bit to look at this. Aomori City is famous for the Nebuta Festival and the elaborate floats of warriors it features. |
Another pic of the float, slightly darker so you can see the colors and brightness a bit better. Aomori City sends floats to cities around the world as a cultural outreach program, and this is the one they sent to London, now permanently kept at the British Museum. |
