On Boxing Day (December 26), Mom and I took the Jane Austen Walk from the Original London Walks. This walk takes you around the area Jane Austen stayed when she was in London and tells you a bit about what life was like in the late Georgian and early Regency days. Here's Janet, our guide.
This building is the home of John Murray Publishing, which published Emma, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion. They're still in business, and still publishing. Must be doing something right.
An enclosed shopping mall on or near Bond Street. If I remember anything about it, I'll update this page. :)
This is where Jane's brother Henry lived, and where she visited him and his wife.
An Egyptian sarcophagus in the British Museum.
Another Egyptian piece of sculpture in the British Museum.
And a third. I liked this guy's googly eyeballs.
Part of the famous Sutton Hoo treasure from an Anglo-Saxon burial.
The British Museum had an exhibit of Japanese kites going on at the time we were there. We didn't go in, but we stopped for a bit to look at this. Aomori City is famous for the Nebuta Festival and the elaborate floats of warriors it features.
Another pic of the float, slightly darker so you can see the colors and brightness a bit better. Aomori City sends floats to cities around the world as a cultural outreach program, and this is the one they sent to London, now permanently kept at the British Museum.
