Ruffle/Overskirt |
Ruffle/Overskirt I'm not really happy with the ruffle/overskirt thing. As I said in the Materials page, I didn't have enough time to do the proper shopping, so I ended up having to compromise and flat-line a blue synthetic fabric with a blue-green netting to kill the color and shininess, which wasn't an ideal solution. If I were to redo this, I'd get a light synthetic silk-like fabric in the right color and line the bottom edge with plastic horsehair to provide the rippled effect. The ruffle is a long strip of fabric (about 2.5 yards long), gathered into a waistband. The waistband fastens to the waistband of the skirt with Velcro. It is made to meet in the front, since Anthy's ruffle is split in front. The size is adjustable because of the Velcro, so it can accomodate the client's pregnancy. In the character design sheet for Anthy, the full-length version shows the ruffle with a split in back, too, but the torso-only version shows it as continuous. I chose to make it continuous. I chose to make the ruffle detachable because that would allow the skirt to be washed separately. The ruffle isn't likely to get dirty, since it does not touch the body and is largely protected by the flaps of the vest. Also, since it's detachable, if the client chooses to have it remade in a different fabric in the future, she will not have to take the skirt apart to get it off.
